About Real Christmas Trees

Each Christmas season millions of trees are purchased from lots and

tree farms across the Nation. Few realize that the use of decorated

trees as the centerpiece of this joyous celebration is a relatively

recent tradition in America. Most historians agree that the first

decorated Christmas trees appeared in the U.S. in the mid 1800's.

These trees were cut from natural stands of timber that surrounded

the population centers of the time. As with most human tradition,

the use of decorated Christmas trees evolved over the subsequent

150 year period to the production and distribution system that we

know today.

More people than ever are concerned with how things affect the

environment. Some have asked if choosing a real tree harms our

forests. This is not the case. Real Christmas trees are truly a

renewable resource! Real Texas Christmas trees are planted and

grown on farms to be harvested for your enjoyment. After harvest,

2-3 seedlings are planted to replace each harvested tree.

Real Christmas trees provide wildlife habitat, control soil erosion and

add immense aesthetic beauty to the landscape. Plus, each acre of

real Christmas trees consumes carbon dioxide while providing the

annual oxygen requirements for 18 people. Real Christmas trees are

100% biodegradable. After the holidays, many communities collect

the trees and make them into a landscaping mulch and other

biodegradable uses.
